The PTE (Pearson Test of English) Academic is an English language proficiency test designed to assess the English language skills of non-native English speakers who wish to study abroad, work in English-speaking environments, or migrate to English-speaking countries.
The PTE Academic test consists of three main parts:
Speaking and Writing: This section assesses your ability to speak and write in English. It includes tasks such as reading aloud, repeating sentences, describing images, and writing essays.
Reading: The reading section evaluates your reading comprehension skills. You will encounter various question formats, including multiple-choice, reorder paragraphs, and fill in the blanks.
Listening: This section measures your ability to understand spoken English in different contexts. You will listen to recordings of lectures, conversations, and presentations, and answer questions based on what you hear.
Test Duration: The entire test takes approximately 3 hours to complete, including an optional 10-minute break.
Scoring: PTE Academic uses automated scoring algorithms to assess test-takers’ performance. Scores are reported on a scale from 10 to 90, with 10-point increments. Each section (Speaking, Writing, Reading, Listening) receives a separate score, and there is also an overall score.
Test Delivery: The PTE Academic test is computer-based and delivered in authorized test centers worldwide. Test-takers use a computer and a headset with a microphone to complete the test. The entire test is conducted in a single session.
Score Reporting: Test-takers receive their scores typically within 5 business days after completing the test. Scores are reported electronically and can be sent to institutions, employers, or immigration authorities as required.
